1) Cholesterol is bad for you

Cholesterol is not a poison but a substance vital to the cells of all mammals. Eskimos have one of the highest cholesterol diets in the world they also have one of the lowest incidences of cardiovascular disease. It has important functions in the synthesis of the steroid hormones and is a precursor of the bite acids it forms part of every organ, including the brain, the heart and even the skin and most is found in the liver and brain.

2) Fats consumed in the diet are bad for your health

Some fats are worse than others, just like cholesterols your body requires some fats, the essential fatty acids. Not to mention the fact that you could become vitamin deficient in the fat-soluble vitamins if you do not consume some essential fatty acids with your meals. Essential fats reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, allergies, arthritis, eczema, depression, fatigue and many diseases. The essential fatty acids are also very important for athletes transporting oxygen and keep red blood, cells the oxygen carriers healthy.

3) Vegetarians do not get enough protein

Vegetarians get plenty of protein but it's a fact they don't get the excessive amount of protein found in our modern diet. Vegetarians diet, so rich in fruit, vegetables, grains and legumes means they are receiving a healthy supply of protein while not eating the meat protein also means they are reducing the saturated fat intake. Plus a vegetarians food supply (plant) tends to be higher sources of micro-nutrients.

4) There are enough minerals in our diets

Many people say they receive all their minerals they need in their diet through the vegetables and fruit. Again sadly another myth. It is a fact, the soils around the world are so heavily depleted of minerals due to fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

5) The human anatomy is designed to eat meat

Again this is a false myth. In reality the opposite is true, the small mouth, tooth structure, acidy in the mouth, large stomach, long small intestines and puckered colon of human beings all suggest a physical structure designed for a plant based diet.

6) Potatoes make you fat

I have heard so many people say this. Potatoes are high in Vitamin C - it is the butter and other fillings that we put on the potatoes that will make us fat.

7) Oranges are the best source of Vitamin C

On the contrary, research has shown that some oranges you buy may contain 0mg of vitamin C. The fruit is picked before it is ripe and then ripened under artificial conditions. You may be lucky and get one that has some vitamin C but it will be an unknown quantity. Many other fruits and vegetables are higher naturally in vitamin C and would be a better choice for clients not wanting to take supplements. Kiwi fruit and red green and yellow peppers are particularly high as is water melon.
