CLA :- Conjugated Linoleic Acid

What Is CLA?
CLA is a natural, polyunsaturated fatty acid found in small quantities in many foods, mainly beef, lamb and milk. The human body cannot produce CLA. It is efficiently absorbed in supplement form and only low levels of CLA are needed to produce therapeutic benefits.

CLA has received enormous media publicity over the last three to four years when it was identified as a component of red meat that actually prevented cancer. Now further research shows that CLA is a potent anti-cancer agent, an anti-catabolic agent, an immune stimulating agent, and very excitingly a fat burning agent that also tones muscles.

A Norwegian study showed impressive results in weight management, especially as all the subjects were told not to change their food habits at all. The group taking CLA went from 21.3% to 17% body fat, interestingly. in this study little weight was lost because muscle weight had been increased, and muscle weighs more than fat.

How Does It Work?
CLA is required to maintain optimal function of the Phospholipid membranes of cells. Healthy cell membranes will allow fat, protein and carbohydrate to flow into active cells such as muscles, connective tissue and organ cells, instead of being stored as fat cells. CLA specifically promotes the growth of muscles by letting nutrients into active muscle cells, and this is why this has become a top-selling product for bodybuilders. A study by Dr. Sugano, a top authority on fatty acids, shows how CLA can be effective in stopping different forms of cancer. Dr. Sugano mentions that CLA has shown to be highly effective in lowering cholesterol, by reducing PGE2 levels. PGE2 is the inflammatory prostaglandin that is involved in a wide range of auto-immune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis.

Many people taking CLA have reported better health with fewer colds and flu. The fact that CLA is a potent antioxidant is crucial to its benefits. Recent studies have shown that CLA is aproximately two times more poweful an antioxidant than beta-carotene and three times more powerful than vitamin E.
