There are two essential fatty acids, Linoleic acid (omega 6) and Alpha-Linclenic acid (omega 3).

The omega 3 family include LNA (flax seed, hemp seed, soybean), SDA (black current seed), EPA (cold water fish) and DHA (cold water fish). EPA is used in the making of senes 3 Prostaglandies the omega 6 family include LA (safflower, sunflower, soybean), GLA (borage, black current seed, evening primrose), DGLA (mother milk).

How Do They Work

EPA : Helps make the platelets in blood less sticky so help prevent build-up of plaque so fight heart disease and stroke.

DHA : Helps stabilise heart rhythm, regulates cell membrane functions included in transmitting signals among brain cells. It's also good for fighting heart disease and improves brain function.

The omega 6 essential fatty acids are generally necessary for stimulating skin and hair growth, regulating metabolism and promoting the transport of fatty acids from the liver to the tissues. Omega 6 does also reduce inflammation and assist nerve function.

GLA : Helps to suppress tumour growth and metastais (spread) particulars in colon cancer, breast cancer, prevent heart disease and stroke.

Both omega 3 and omega 6 should be taken on a weight management programme.
